About a week ago, I became aware of a contest that Diet Coke was hosting: the Diet Coke® Young Designer Challenge, Season 2. The theme was Stay Extraordinary. And, of course, the entries must meet the brand standards of Diet Coke. The submission period of this contest ended May 31st at 11:59pm EST... Which was a whole day and a half after I saw the call for entries.
SO. Knowing how little time I had to create an entry or two, I started brainstorming immediately. Working on my submission was pretty much all I did for the next 1.5 days -- aside from the necessities required for survival. And within that time I managed to come up with not one, or two entries, but four. All of which I am pretty proud.
It's been awhile since I've committed to such a task with such an prompt deadline. It made me miss my days as an art student. Oh, nostalgia.
Anyways.
Now the submission period is over; I must wait with fingers crossed. Despite being proud of my entries, I have no delusions of grandeur. I hold out little hope for being selected as the grand prize winner, but I would be beyond honored to even be selected as a semi-finalist.
My entries, in order of creation--

My entries, in order of creation--
Wing-tipped Rider. This entry was initially inspired by the photographs included by Diet Coke for inspiration. There was a girl on a bike. I thought that could lend itself well to a sleek and iconic image. I dressed her in a feminine, flowing, full-skirted number with a pair of wing-tips because that holds very true to my own style... And I always feel extraordinary in a pair of wing-tipped oxfords.
Stay, Stay, Stay. The inner designer in me adores typography, so I thought it'd be fun to explore that option. I wanted something whimsical with a very hand-written look. Something that looked very "doodled".
Bloom. Stemming from the concept of each day being new and without mistakes, this image grew. Each day is a new day. Each day deserves to be given the same start, the same chance to become something extraordinary. It's about growth and beauty and living life.
I'll Hold Your Heart In My Hands. Love is extraordinary. Being capable of showing your love to the world around you is even more extraordinary. This design was especially inspired by Taylor Swift, Diet Coke's latest spokeswoman. I think it holds true to her ideals about life. Love, love, and love some more.
